Cash Flow vs. Profit—Why They’re Not the Same Thing

Making sales doesn’t mean you have cash in the bank. Many businesses look profitable on paper but struggle to pay bills because cash flow is a separate game.

✅ Profit = Revenue minus expenses. It looks good on your P&L but doesn’t tell you how much cash you actually have.
✅ Cash flow = Money coming in vs. money going out. A profitable business can still struggle if payments take too long to come in or expenses are poorly timed.
✅ A business can survive without profit for a while, but it can’t survive without cash. Running out of cash is one of the top reasons small businesses fail.
