Fridge Fiasco

So, our refrigerator went out…again.

Well, it was working fine until the heat wave came. Believe it or not, this happened a year ago. The crazy part is that I was leaving for a work trip when it happened the first time. You know that sinking feeling when you open the fridge and things just feel warm? Then you open the freezer to see if it is actually doing its job? Yeah – that happened to us.

What we ended up doing is going to one of the local home improvement stores to view their appliance inventory. We needed a fridge FAST! Especially because we wanted to make sure the food didn’t spoil (shoutout to the in-laws for making room for our food!).

The entire weekend felt stressful. All except for the money. We planned for emergencies like this, and we were prepared. What we weren’t prepared for was the questions from our children.

“When is it going to get here?” or “what can I eat? I’m HUNGRY!” The constant nagging of little person’s voices added to the stress of logistics. Eventually, they hauled the old one away and the new one is now in its new place. Of course, there is a waiting period for the new one to cool which meant grabbing those styrofoam insulated coolers from a nearby grocery store and filling it with ice.

Even amidst the stressful situation, we paused to thank God that we had food and were quick to take action on saving what we could. The cost of indecision could have cost us more time and money, but we were both aligned when it came to making the investment. We knew we didn’t want to sacrifice additional time to save a few hundred dollars on a cheaper piece of equipment. We also opted for the 5 year warranty plan because hey, we don’t want any more issues with the fridge.

Our experience with refrigerators has been somewhat unpleasant, but we are hopeful that this one will last a good long time.

PS: there are already 2 dozen handprints from our children on it. Those are some memories that will last a lifetime. Next time, we will just subtract all the chaos and yelling.
