Somebody posted something this week that I have not stopped thinking about.

He builds software for property developers in Mexico. One client had been saying for years that he had 3,000 brokers selling his projects. So they asked where the number came from. Everyone was in the WhatsApp groups, and everyone had the link to the shared folder. That was the whole system.

They replaced the folder with something that could actually see activity. Three months later the real number was 200. Of those, about 25 were regularly putting units in front of buyers. Out of three thousand.

Then he ran the same thing at two more companies and landed on almost the same ratio both times.

The part I keep coming back to is how ordinary that is. Nobody set out to overstate anything. The number was simply never counted, so it quietly became the length of the list. Any channel that cannot tell you who opened what will do the same thing to you. A group chat, an email blast, a shared folder, a connection count.

Most of us carry a smaller version of this around. Mine is a contact list I would happily call a network, and I could not tell you when I last heard from two thirds of it.

So here is a Sunday question for this community: how many people in your network have you actually spoken with in the last ninety days? Not seen a post from. Spoken with.

My honest guess for myself is under twenty.
