🎙️ "Is YouTube Dominating Podcasting? Not So Fast…"
There has been a lot of noise lately suggesting that YouTube is now the dominant podcast platform. However, a recent article by Signal Hill Insights clarifies the situation: while YouTube is gaining ground, it's not replacing traditional podcast apps.
As a coach, podcast producer, and someone who lives in the trenches with creators every day, I think it's time we talk honestly about this.
Yes: YouTube is powerful for discoverability.
No: it’s not the end-all for podcast consumption.
Here’s the nuance most miss:
🔹 Audio-first apps still lead the pack when it comes to core podcast listening. Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast—these are still where many loyal listeners hit "play" each day.
🔹 YouTube excels in visibility. Especially for video-first or hybrid podcasters, it’s a content search engine with unmatched SEO juice. As Gary Vee reminds us in Day Trading Attention, the real currency is underpriced attention, and right now, YouTube Shorts and searchable video content are still a huge opportunity.
🔹 Smart strategy means using both. One for audience loyalty, the other for audience expansion.
So should you be on YouTube as a podcaster?
✅ Absolutely, if you want to be discovered, if you want new eyes on your story, and if you want to play the long game in brand visibility.
But don’t abandon your audio platforms. Build your content house on more than one foundation.
